SOURCE: Donation I have always wanted to walk the Camino, culminating in a glorious arrival at the magnificent Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela. Alas, now in my sixties I have not yet done so. It is still on my bucket-list though!
Meanwhile, I have this delightful die-cut bookmark in my collection, which was gifted to me. Not only does it serve as a bookmark, but it serves as a reminder to me about my intention for pilgrimage on the Camino. Today, I added a new page here on my website, "Bookmarks : Thematics". These are thematic galleries of bookmarks, in slide-show format, and are in addition to my existing "Bookmarks : Categories" galleries.
Thus far I have sixteen thematic galleries and will probably add some more galleries in the future:
I have certainly thoroughly enjoyed deciding upon and creating the thematic galleries and I hope you enjoy viewing them. I will add more bookmarks to each of them from time-time. I found it very interesting to sort, consider and explore the bookmarks thematically, as opposed to my usual way of sorting them into subject categories. I got some new and fresh insights into many of the bookmarks actually. Amazing what you see with fresh eyes and when coming from a different angle. SOURCE: Purchased and Donations Update and reposting of original blog post of 27 October 2015, as I have now collected more of these beautiful bookmarks. I purchased these three delightful vintage bookmarks from a dealer at the Clunes Book Fair in 2015. They were published by the Australian Library Promotion Council and depict three iconic Australian animals, the koala, ringtail possum and platypus. I have since collected several more of the beautiful bookmarks in this series and am always on the lookout for more. I have been unable to find out how many different designs were produced. So, if you know of any others, please do let me know. Thank you. Australian Library Week was first celebrated in 1968 under the auspices of the Australian Library Promotion Council. The Council, which was founded in 1948, folded in the late 1980s. After an intermission of some years, the Australian Library and Information Association assumed responsibility for Australian Library Week. The Australian Library Promotion Council also published another series of bookmarks titled" Another Great Australian Imprint: Free Libraries"

I posted the entry below on this blog, on 8 January 2015, and have now elevated it as there is further news about Bob in today's ABC News here in Australia. Bob the Railway Dog, Australia's famous train hitchhiking pooch, immortalised in print Bob the Railway Dog, an icon of Peterborough in South Australia's mid-north, is again being celebrated with a book detailing some of his many adventures. The grey-haired Smithfield sheepdog hitchhiked across Australia on trains in the 1880s and 1890s accompanying both stationmasters and passengers. A book titled Bob's Railway has been written by author John Wilson, who said not enough people knew the icon's true story. "Last year I wrote a book about the centenary of the railway to Clare called The Riesling Railway, and I mentioned Bob because he went to Clare," Mr Wilson said. "I started digging around and I found that a lot which had been written about [Bob] was incorrect." Read the full story here.
SOURCE: Donations from my WOBODA Raffle 1st Prize 2019 Among the thousands of bookmarks I recently received from all over the world as the winner of the World Bookmark Day Raffle 2019, were a couple of hundred in my most favourite genre, Bookstore (Bookshop) bookmarks. Yay! Here is a selection of some of my favourites, in no particular order. SOURCE: Donation from my WOBODA Raffle 1st Prize 2019 These are a very lovely, clever and witty series of bookmarks promoting reading.
As you can see, famous paintings have had books added to them, and in paintings where there are people, they now appear to be reading or have been reading. That is, each of the twelve designs on these 'Master the Art of Reading Bookmarks' features a literary interpretation of classic works of art. My set is all labeled as being published by the "Lab Safety Supply Inc., in 2007-2008 but my understanding is that the original set of 6 was first published by Demco. Sometimes you get a bookmark that doesn't particularly grab you graphically, etc., but you are intrigued by what it is all about and set out on a research mission to find out more! This bookmark about Indie Bob is a case in point! The bookmark itself is informative and also humorous! But Indie Bob's blog is even more revealing, informative and totally fascinating. Great stories and photos of Bob's numerous visits to independent book stores in the USA. Bob certainly has a passion for independent book stores and books and reading in general! As he says in his first blog entry on 13 February 2014: "The initial purpose of this blog is to share observations about independent bookstores and support them as they battle against the ever-increasing use of e-readers and online sites like Amazon. It will however evolve also as a site for me to share some of the books I'm reading and offer informal book reports. Yes, I'm pretending I'm back in middle school and offering book reports! Expect things to refine as I go since this blogging thing is very new to me. My primary goal is to visit every independent bookstore listed in the book, My Bookstore, edited by Ronald Rice [Bob is shown reading this book on the bookmark], which is a great resource of indie bookstores. There are 81 indies in this book". Bob is still visiting indie bookstores and blogging about his experiences as we speak! Do check out his blog.
Just discovered these fun bookmarks and the how-to on YouTube. This coffee lover loves this idea! Shall find some time soon to make some and add them here on my blog. Meanwhile, it's time for a cup of coffee!

I particularly love the first bookmark shown below. It is for the book "The Black Tulip and Other Plays" by Joe Friggieri and illustrated by Lisa Falzon. Stunning artwork! SOURCE: Donations from my WOBODA Raffle 1st Prize 2019 These are very beautiful and profound bookmarks! Meaningful symbols, great quotes, gorgeous landscapes... bookmarks that truly carry wisdom! Well done Demco Inc., for publishing these gems. (Front and back images of bookmarks shown below).
SOURCE: Donations from my WOBODA Raffle 1st Prize 2019 Ooh, I do really like these four Highsmith bookmarks! Why? I love the simple but strong graphics, font style, colour, etc., and most importantly, the messages they carry. Right on! These bookmarks are a great example of how bookmarks can be used to convey important messages, knowledge and wisdom.
