library & ARCHIVES bookmarks

The library card is a passport to wonders and miracles, glimpses into other lives, religions, experiences, the hopes and dreams and strivings of ALL human beings, and it is this passport that opens our eyes and hearts to the world beyond our front doors,
that is one of our best hopes against tyranny, xenophobia, hopelessness, despair, anarchy, and ignorance. ~ Libba Bray

Codices Electronici Sangallenses

Picture
PictureAbbey Library of St. Gall
The Abbey Library of St. Gall in Switzerland, with its 2100 manuscripts, is one of the oldest and most important manuscript and monastic libraries in the world. Half of its codices date back to the Middle Ages. In 1983, the Abbey of St. Gall was added by UNESCO to the World Heritage List.

The aim of the project "Codices Electronici Sangallenses" (Digital Abbey Library of St. Gall) is to open up the medieval manuscripts from the Abbey Library of St. Gall to the world through an online  virtual library.

I have been to Switzerland but alas, I did not visit this library.  At least I have one of their beautiful bookmarks!
